The following trouble shooting steps are provided for your convenience and outline solutions to most of the calls we receive.
- Are you connected to the right jack?
Students Note: In most residence halls there are two coax jacks. In this instance, use the coax jack that is not on the same faceplate as the phone/data connection. - Make sure your TV or VCR is set to CATV. For some televisions and VCRs, this can only be done using the remote control. If your TV is not cable-ready, you will need a cable-ready VCR.
- Make sure that your TV or VCR has been programmed correctly. Many TVs and VCRs have an auto program function using the remote control. You will need to reprogram each time power to the TV or VCR has been interrupted.
- If your TV is connected to a VCR, refer to your VCR owner’s manual for proper set up and troubleshooting.
- Check volume and mute buttons on all equipment, including remote controls.
- If you have poor reception, please see "Poor Reception Quality" below.
- If the problem persists, call HUSKYvision at 486-4357. For an outage in service that is affecting more than your room, please call 486-4357 immediately. Please leave a message if your call goes to voice mail, someone will respond.
Poor Reception Quality
Poor reception quality can be the result of several things, one of which is signal loss. Signal loss can interfere with air traffic and other signals and is therefore regulated by the FCC. In order to comply with FCC regulations, the University must monitor the amount of signal loss in all buildings on campus. The most common occurrences of signal loss are the result or loose or poor cable connections, damaged cables and damaged or loose wall jacks. Please take a moment to check that your cable connections are secure and replace damaged or inferior cables.
If . . .
- Your wall jack is damaged or loose, please call HUSKYvision at 486-4357 to have your wall jack repaired.
- Your cable is loose, you can pull it out of the wall jack or off your TV or VCR, tighten the connections.
- You use tape or string to hold your cable in place and/or your cable has slip-on connectors, you may want to purchase a cable with screw-on connectors. New cables can be purchased at the UConn Coop or any store that sells cable connectors.
- Your cable is spliced, kinked or if the outside covering is damaged in anyway, you need a new cable. New cables can be purchased at the UConn Coop or any store that sells cable connectors.
- HUSKYvision may contact you and request an appointment if test results are in violation of FCC regulations. Please cooperate with us and help us comply with FCC regulations. If you have poor reception and you have checked your cable connections, please call HUSKYvision to set up an appointment. We should be able to isolate any signal loss and help you with your reception quality.
